Man Utd target highly reliable left-back with PL experience to replace Shaw

 Manchester United have earmarked Brighton left-back Pervis Estupinan as a key defensive signing under Ruben Amorim during the summer window. United have signed Patrick Dorgu for the left-wingback position during the January window, but want to add more strength there.

The Red Devils want to sell Luke Shaw, eliminating his massive wages from their expenses and avoiding relying on him. The England international has struggled with constant fitness and injury issues throughout his tenure with United since joining from Southampton.

United’s style of play has drastically shifted under Amorim compared to their preferred 4-man defence formation under previous managerial reigns. Amorim uses a three-man defence, along with two wingbacks on the wide and two midfielders ahead of the defensive trio

The current squad has struggled to adjust to Amorim’s style and demand, playing a critical factor in their poor run. United finished 16th in the Premier League last season and also lost the Europa League final, adding to their misery.

According to Fichajes, United want Brighton left-back Estupinan to bolster their wide defensive area under Amorim during this summer window. The 27-year-old has played a pivotal role for Brighton since joining the club from Villarreal in the summer of 2022.

The Ecuador international made 36 appearances in all competitions for Brighton last season, scoring a goal and providing an assist. Estupinan’s ability to cover distance, provide incisive runs in attack and cover his channel defensively are his biggest playing strengths.

Brighton finished eighth in the Premier League, with the 27-year-old missing a few games due to injuries, showcasing his reliability. Despite the drop in contribution this season, Estupinan remains a threat when he ventures forward, displaying unpredictability in overlapping wingers.

At the peak of his career and having a strong Premier League experience, the 27-year-old will thrive at any club. United have Dorgu as a left-back option, and a lot depends on Shaw leaving the club before any potential move is made for the Ecuadorian international.
