Israel's Foreign Ministry slams Abbas following UN speech
Israel's Foreign Ministry slammed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas following his address at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in a post to X/Twitter on Wednesday night.
The ministry highlighted the pin he wore, calling it an "unmistakable symbol of his goal of erasing Israel."
Abbas’s 'key' is the old PLO plan: two states for one Palestinian people and the destruction of the Jewish State. This will not happen."
Following the US's denial of a visa to Abbas, the UNGA voted last week to allow the Palestinian president to address the assembly over video. The resolution received 145 votes in favor and five votes against, while six countries abstained.
IDF on high alert
Earlier this week, IDF Central Command Chief Maj.-Gen. Avi Bluth ordered dozens of IDF battalions to be placed on high alert, in preparation for a possible surge in terror attacks throughout the week in response to Abbas's speech, and combat forces were reinforced on all fronts.
Since then, a second Houthi drone crashed into a hotel in the southern city of Eilat, injuring dozens of civilians on Wednesday night. This followed another drone strike by the Houthis that crashed into the courtyard of a different hotel in the city last week.
