Man Utd can save millions in transfer fees but only if they act now
Manchester United must move swiftly to secure a double transfer if they want to make sure costs don't escalate significantly. The Red Devils are already believed to be plotting ahead for the summer window, by which point a new permanent manager will be in post.
Michael Carrick has made a remarkable start to his caretaker stint, though it remains to be seen whether the club will entertain giving him the role on a permanent basis. United splashed out last summer to the tune of more than £200million, welcoming the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko to Old Trafford, and there could be more to come.
The club are keen on signing Tromso teenager Sedi Kinteh and Valencia youngster Hugo Fernandez, according to the Daily Mail. However, time is of the essence if United want to avoid paying a premium.
Fernandez is believed to have a release clause of approximately £4.35m, though that figure will double at the end of August. The young defender is attracting considerable interest after earning promotion to Valencia's first-team squad and is in demand even before making his senior debut for the Spanish outfit.
Kinteh, meanwhile, is thriving in an impressive debut season at Tromso. He joined the Norwegian side from Academy Mawade Wade in Senegal and has already been rewarded with a fresh five-year deal.
The versatile defender, capable of operating through the centre or on the left flank, already represents Gambia at international level and has developed a reputation for his electrifying pace. United are understood to be tracking his development in Norway, but Chelsea have likewise been mentioned in connection with a transfer before the window opens in the summer, as have Swiss sides Young Boys and Basel.
United's recruitment team are thought to be monitoring both players closely, although reports suggest they are considered to possess comparable characteristics to Ayden Heaven, making other areas more of a priority. The Red Devils are expected to focus on recruiting proven performers with the capability to instantly enhance the first-team squad, with Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson among those linked.
United are believed to be eager for additional midfield quality as they prepare for Casemiro to depart. The former Real Madrid star will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires in June, with central midfield an obvious priority when the summer window opens.
